What Works

Clean vector-based art reproduces best.

What (sadly) Doesn’t Work

Low resolution images

Photographs
(unless you are going for a bitmapped-stlye image)

Very thin or fine lines less than .25 point stroke weight (ink) or .5 point stroke weight (foil).

Large areas of solid coverage/flood
(unless you are going for an imperfect, salty look)

Tiny details combined with heavy coverage in the same ink color

Printing front and back on stock less than 200#C

Tight multi-color registration on envelopes or deckle edge paper

Checklist

Outlines: Create outlines for all text

Ink: All line weights and negative spaces must be a minimum of .25 point

Foil: All line weights and negative spaces must be a minimum of .5 point

Bleed: If your artwork bleeds, it must extend a minimum of .125” outside of the final cut line

Live Area: If your artwork does not bleed, be sure all pertinent information is it at least .125” inside of the final cut line

Size: Does your artboard size match the final specs?

Color: Are your solid uncoated Pantone colors in place?

Images: If your artwork contains placed images, have they been embedded?

Include final specs with your order:
Quantity
Size(s)
Paper(s)
Ink / Foil Colors(s)

File Formats

Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
Adobe InDesign

Scanned Artwork

Continuous tone images, such as photographs or hand-drawn lines, can be produced as halftones, but they will have a very “half-toney” look to them. If you desire a halftone image, use a 1200 dpi scan at 100% scale.

If you are looking for clean line art from a scan, be sure to scan it at 1200 dpi at 100% scale and save the image in Bitmap or Lineart mode. We recommend that you scan in Grayscale, adjust the image using curves and levels, and convert the image mode via Mode -> Bitmap -> 50% Threshold in Photoshop.
