Mouth Party Caramel

Mouth Party Caramel began with the original vanilla caramel derived from Jane Drake Cummings’ four-generation-old family recipe. Jane, who has been married to the founder’s father for over 35 years, is a two-time cancer survivor.  In recognition of her fight and determination, as well as that of the founder’s sister – a three-time cancer survivor – they have embraced the mission to end cancer.  So, for every single little caramel they sell, they give a little back.  That’s a big motivator in crafting each one of their ridiculously good caramels. Giving back is the bedrock of Mouth Party’s company mission.

  • The Challenge:
Following our successful collaboration with BG and Mouth Party over the course of several years on various projects, they approached us with a fresh task of revamping their existing logo. Their objective was to create a logo that would enhance versatility. One of the main objectives was to preserve the recognizable elements of the logo, as they had built a lot of equity in their brand identity since its inception 14 years earlier.

    The Solution:
To enhance the visual appeal and create more versatility, we implemented several refinements. First, we softened the contours of the mouth shape, resulting in a more inviting and approachable appearance. Additionally, we introduced modified typography that was still recognizable but offered a bit more personality and legibility when used outside of the logotype. We then incorporated a subtle arch, which not only adds visual interest but also ensures its effectiveness when used independently.

  • The Challenge:
Mouth Party approached us wanting to enhance their current product packaging while preserving the essence of their well-established brand. Additionally, they sought to streamline their packaging process by eliminating the labor-intensive task of attaching ribbons to each bag of caramels, all while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance suitable for gifting.

    The Solution:
To address these requirements, we began by refreshing the typography and color palettes. We then went a step further and reimagined the iconic twisted shape of the caramels themselves. Through hand-drawn illustrations, we created ten distinct and individual designs, each as unique as the caramel it represents. These illustrations, though static, lend a sense of dynamic movement to each package, adding visual interest and capturing the attention of the consumer.

To pay homage to the beloved ribbon element from the original packaging, we devised a solution that incorporates a ribbon-like band at the top of the bag. This band serves as a decorative element, providing a familiar touch while also serving as a nesting place for the logo, further enhancing the overall visual appeal of the packaging.

I have partnered with Gilah Press for years and am proud to do so.  I was first drawn to Gilah Press after noticing their graphic design work for other small, local businesses. I first engaged them when we began to revamp our product packaging and overall brand identity.  We have worked on many projects together and their work is consistently thoughtful, creative, highly stylized, and beautifully executed. Our recent gift box redesign project has proven very worthwhile as we engaged our largest corporate gift order to date.
